Like Martin Luther King I too “have a dream!” My dream is to help create a vibrant, thriving tennis community in Saratoga Springs, Utah. To this end, I have created Saratoga Springs Tennis.com. This site is dedicated to helping all tennis enthusiasts living in our beautiful city to further their tennis prowess. Whether you are in search of information, lessons, clinics, stringing, activities/socials, or just finding a playing partner; this is the place for you!
Our goal is to help players of all ages and abilities to enjoy this beautiful game of tennis. We look forward to holding tennis socials, various clinics (many free of charge), and providing you with the best, up-to-date information on tennis and the tennis scene here in Saratoga Springs.
I was a product of the tennis boom of the 1970’s, and I’ve been playing and teaching tennis ever since then. I remember those days well; courts were full of people playing and it seemed like facilities were being built everywhere in my home town of Wappingers Falls, NY. It was a chore to find court time though, but it was a great time for a tennis obsessed kid like me.
I worked my way through college working at Poughkeepsie Tennis Club (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Cross Courts Tennis Club (Wappingers Falls, NY). I did everything from maintaining the clay courts to working the front desk, and I had the opportunity to teach in the junior programs.
I attended Brigham Young University and completed a degree in Exercise Science. Not only am I a certified tennis teaching pro (PTR-Professional Tennis Registry), but I’m also a Certified Health Fitness Specialist (a step above a Personal Trainer) through the American College of Sports Medicine. While at BYU I had the opportunity to complete a tennis coaching internship (thanks Coach Larry Hall) which greatly enhanced my coaching (and playing) skills.
In my professional life I was a healthcare manager/hospital administrator in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Upon my retirement from the Air Force, I managed the outpatient clinics for Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan, UT for a while. I left that position to pursue my interests in health and wellness, but due to some unforeseen health issues I was out of commission for awhile.
As I worked my way back to health, I decided to volunteer as an assistant tennis coach at the new Westlake High School that was just completed in my neighborhood in Saratoga Springs. Since doing that I’ve been coaching and teaching tennis part/full-time. In 2012 I was hired as the head tennis coach at Westlake.
I love this game! There’s just something about hitting that fuzzy yellow ball that gets in your blood—I guess it’s the desire to improve and compete! It is my goal to introduce this great game to as many people as I can. I’d love to see another tennis boom here in our beautiful city of Saratoga Springs!
See you on the courts!
